With Fall upon us, it’s time to get ready for both the cooler weather and a drop in humidity. Not only will the environment be drier, but likely your skin will be as well. As you put away your warm weather clothes, you also need to put away your lightweight gel (or water-based) moisturizers that you’ve been using all summer. Tis the season for reversing the sun damage accumulated from lounging by the pool or trips to the beach. Even if you haven’t participated in many summer activities due to COVID, you’ve likely experienced sun damage simply by being outside. Because sun damage is cumulative, even exposure for only 15 minutes a day, can negatively impact skin. So now’s the time for transitioning your skincare from summer to fall.
WIth 2020 being such an intense year, many of us are suffering from anxiety, which stresses out your skin as well. Stressed skin can become inflamed, fatigued and broken out. If you’ve been experiencing more breakouts, particularly along the jawline and chin, it could very well be from not only elevated levels of stress, but continued use of wearing masks, a.k.a., (maskne). Because you haven’t been able to get your regularly scheduled facial treatments/extractions, you’ve most likely developed more blackheads. Even if you don’t have any of these stressed-related issues, experiencing a medical-spa treatment can make you feel rejuvenated and relaxed, both mentally and physically. With our office being back open for business coinciding with pumpkin peel season, now’s a good time to consider a series of chemical, oxygen or pumpkin peel (enzyme) treatments as part of your self-care routine.
Take a peek below to see which treatments sound like your favs!! If you’re not sure which ones are right for you, call our office to set up a complimentary skin care consultation with our skilled Medical Aesthetician, Teresa Clemens. She will customize just the right treatment plan/skin care products for your skin type.
CHEMICAL PEELS
When getting a chemical peel, commonly used alpha or beta hydroxy acids go to work to remove dead skin cells, unclog skin pores, counteract dullness and dark spots to brighten the skin. A peel using salicylic acid, (beta hydroxy acid), is often used to decongest pores for a clearer complexion. These brightening treatments target age spots, lightening them by a shade or two, resulting in a more even-toned, luminous complexion. A combo of glycolic acid (alpha hydroxy acid) and retinol (Vitamin A derivative) can improve overall dullness, help diminish appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as blemishes. Glycolic helps exfoliate and remove dry, dead skin cells. As retinol is also known for these characteristics, it additionally enhances skin cell turnover. The result? A healthier, more youthful-looking appearance.
OXYGENATING PEELS
An Oxygenating ‘O2 Lift’ can not only help renew your skin, but make it glow, for an instantly brighter look. By infusing peptides, enzymatic botanicals and stem cells derived from plants, these powerhouse ingredients help reduce the appearance of fine lines, plump up and brighten the skin. The result? Your skin feels rejuvenated and looks more radiant! This spa-like treatment is not only relaxing, it offers a more youthful appearance. In addition to brightening the skin, this effervescent treatment packs an anti-aging punch with the help from some of our favorite, super-star ingredients like vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and fruit enzymes.
ENZYME PEELS
Fruit enzyme peels work by breaking down the protein keratin in the skin. Think of them like little Pac-Man video game characters, eating away dead surface layers of skin, making them excellent exfoliators! Popular fruit enzymes used in skincare include pumpkin, pineapple (bromelain) and papaya (papain). As the keratin protein is broken down, it helps to reveal brighter, healthier skin underneath. An enzyme peel can also integrate other ingredients besides fruit enzymes, such as vitamins A, C and E, as well as hyaluronic acid. These help aid and boost the skin’s brightening effects. Although you’ll see results, even after a single treatment, we recommend a series of at least three treatments, depending on the level of skin damage present and based on your overall chief concerns.
