PRP vs. Stem Cell Therapy: What’s the Difference?

When you have a health problem that hurts or changes how you live your life, you want a treatment that works. Many therapies may work quickly to make you feel better for a short time, but they don’t fix the problem.

Stem cell therapy and platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP therapy) are two options that can not only make you feel better but also fix the problem. Our staff at Walnut Creek Aesthetics has all the tools and knowledge they need to help you get rid of your pain in several ways.

So in this post, we’ll talk about the difference between these two treatments. Discover which one would help you solve your problems and make the most of your health.

Regenerative Treatments

Most of the time, our body is always fixing itself, especially when we’re hurt. When you cut yourself, it bleeds for a little while, but after a few minutes, the bleeding stops, and a scab forms.

Regenerative treatment is a term for several treatments that use your body’s natural ability to heal. This treatment encourages the growth of new cells in damaged or dying areas to help heal tissues and bones.

In every clinic, regenerative measures treat several different conditions. Doctors do this by helping your body to make specific cells that boost its ability to heal. This can not only make you feel better, but it can also fix the problem that’s causing the pain.

Regenerative medicine includes both stem cell therapy and platelet-rich plasma. So, even though the treatments are different, the goal is to help your body heal so you can get back to your life.

Now, let’s move on to the difference between the two treatments.

Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP Therapy

PRP therapy is generally taken from a sample of your blood (using a simple needle withdrawal) and used to treat a condition or injury. The plasma’s growth factors and healing properties are what make it worthwhile.

Platelets are one of the many parts of your blood. When you get hurt, it is the platelets’ job to help your body heal. But, people with orthopedic injuries often find that their condition hasn’t fully recovered.

On the other hand, many people find it takes a long time to get better after surgery or an injury. In either case, PRP therapy can help. So, if you have an old injury that is still bothering you, PRP therapy can help the area heal, which will make your symptoms disappear.

Also, PRP therapy can speed up the healing of an area that would have healed much more slowly without it. These responses happen when a large amount of PRP is injected into the problem area. Once the platelets are injected, they go to work and fix the problem causing the symptoms.

Where you can use it:

It’s a pretty easy thing to do. You can put PRP (and even PRF) on any part of the skin that needs to be repaired. It is usually injected under the skin’s dermis or put on top of the skin’s surface after a laser procedure to make scars, fine lines, and wrinkles on the skin less noticeable.

They can also be injected into the tear trough to make the skin under your eyes look better and eliminate dark circles and hollows. PRP is also used to treat hollow cheeks and to grow hair back on the scalp.

After microneedling with the Morpheus 8 or Secret RF, PRP and PRF are also injected into the skin’s dermis or put on the surface to stimulate collagen, improve the tone and texture of the skin, reduce wrinkles, and fix sun damage.

PRP Treatments at Walnut Creek Aesthetics

Here at Walnut Creek Aesthetics, we offer PRP Treatments for the following:

Scar Treatment

PRP/PRP is put on the skin or injected with microneedles into the dermis. This treatment can improve the health of your skin and make stretch marks and scars from surgeries like tummy tucks, breast surgery, or any other type of surgery less noticeable. For best results, you may need between 3 and 5 treatments.

Hair Regrowth

PRP/PRF is injected at specific depths into the scalp to help hair follicles grow. By putting certain nutrients at the base of the hair follicle, we can make it grow back and get new hair. Usually, you need three to six treatments in a row to see results. There are about 4 to 6 weeks between each treatment. Most of the time, results are seen after 3 to 9 months.

Facial Injections

PRP/PRF is injected right under the skin in places like the tear trough and the skin surface to stimulate collagen, get rid of dark circles, improve the skin’s texture, and improve the skin’s overall health. Fine lines will be gone about two weeks after treatment, and the skin will look less dull.

Stem Cell Treatment

PRP therapy is not the same as stem cell therapy. Stem cells are not taken from your blood like platelets are. Instead, they are taken from your bone marrow or fat.

Stem cells are unspecialized cells that can replace specialized cells in your body when they need to be replaced. Stem cells are not as easy to get as platelets because each person only has a limited number of them in their bone marrow or fat.

So, getting stem cells out of a blood sample is harder than getting platelets out. Also, stem cell therapy takes stem cells from bone marrow or fat using a needle or an incision.

The stem cells are then used to make a powerful solution. This solution is put into the place where the problem is. Stem cells move into the area and replace specialized cells that are badly needed.

This starts the healing process. Stem cells can even make new tissue that the body needs, making them a revolutionary way to heal.

So, To Sum Up

PRP and stem cell therapy are medical treatments that can help with a wide range of health problems. PRP treatment and stem cell therapy have a significant advantage in that they often eliminate the need for surgery to treat pain and injuries.

But many people can get better with PRP and stem cell therapy instead of undergoing invasive surgery. Getting better after surgery can take weeks, but with PRP and stem cell therapy, patients can get better in just a few days.
