WHAT IS CELLULITE?
Cellulite is the roughly textured, cottage cheese or orange peel-like appearance on the surface of the skin in areas of the body that commonly include the buttocks, thighs, and upper arms.
The dimples in cellulite are caused by three aspects of the interaction between skin and fatty tissue:
- Subdermal fibrous bands called “fibrous septae” tether the skin down to the muscle below. This gives us the dimples or divots commonly associated with cellulite.
- Fatty tissue in these areas enlarges and herniates upwards between the fibrous bands, giving us the hills and peaks commonly associated with cellulite.
- The skin surface itself thins out in these areas, causing numbers one and two above to become more prominent.

Qwo is currently FDA approved for use in the buttocks of adult women. Clinical studies are currently ongoing for its use in other areas such as the thighs. At this time, the use of Qwo in the thighs of upper arms would be considered off-label use and can be done. - Adult women with moderate to severe dimple-like cellulite in their buttocks.
- Patients of any skin tone or skin type. Qwo is safe for all ethnicities.
- Because the skin structure is physically different in males, men are unlikely to benefit from Qwo and are also less likely to experience cellulite to begin with.
- Women who are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
Qwo is administered over the course of three treatment sessions separated 21 days apart. It is administered right here in our practice as in-office treatment followed by minimal downtime. Patients will be able to have their treatment within 10 – 15 minutes, and then return home or to work immediately afterward.
